12 games against six rivals: three in the first phase and another three in the second. It is the route of the European teams that from the last week of November will start the qualification phase for the World Cup 2023. A total of 32 countries -the 24 that will participate in the Eurobasket 2022 plus the eight classified in the so-called phase pre-qualification, which ended in the summer – with 12 places up for grabs.

The qualifying phase, with the same format as the one played for the previous World Cup, is structured as follows:

First phase. In the first phase, the 32 teams are divided into 8 groups of 4 teams that will play a league of all against all (6 games, 3 at home and another three as visitors). The three best classified in each group will go to the same group in the next round: the three classified in group G (in which Spain is framed together with North Macedonia, Georgia and Ukraine) will form a group of the second phase with the three classified from group H, which includes Russia, Italy, the Netherlands and Iceland.
DATES: November 2021, February 2022 and July 2022.

Second stage. In the second phase, the 24 qualified teams will form 4 groups from 6 countries: there will be 6 more matches, against the three rivals of the other group and dragging the results obtained in the first phase. The first three of each group of this second phase will obtain a place for the World Cup.
DATES: August 2022, November 2022 and February 2023.

In addition to Europe, qualifying phases will be held in America, Africa and Asia-Oceania. A total of 80 national teams will participate, of which 32 will qualify for the World Cup. Japan and the Philippines are guaranteed places as host countries; The third organizer, Indonesia, will only qualify after the AsiaCup that will be held next July 2022 in the top 8.

The distribution by continents for the championship is as follows: Africa (5 countries), America (7), Asia-Oceania (8, including Indonesia, Japan and the Philippines) and Europe (12).
