The coaches of the LEB Oro League know very well that the construction of a winning project usually begins with the hiring of the best possible base couple. An affirmation that has been validated over the years by different level bases and that has been more than ratified during this course with the success achieved by three of the most successful national bases in the category. And it is that, both Alber Sàbat in Girona and Lluis Costa and Christian Díaz in Granada, have been able to feed their respective personal resumes to lead their teams to the conquest of the long-awaited promotion to the Endesa League.

In this way, this trio of national point guards has risen to the top of the historical ranking of promotions, conquering the fifth promotion of the playmaker from Llagostera, the fourth of the talented point guard from Barcelona and the third of the explosive Canarian reference. Numbers that will allow them to be one step closer to the historic record of a Jorge García who remains intractable with the eight promotions he has won throughout his career.

REPORTAGE: Jorge García, the national basketball record man

Albert Sàbat conquers his fifth ascent in Fontajau:

There was a time when the name of Albert Sàbat was synonymous with promotion in the LEB Gold League and, if something has become clear in this 2022, it is that the point guard from Llagostera seems not to have lost his touch. And it is that Albert has added this year in Girona his fifth assault on the Endesa League and the seventh promotion in total within a career in which he even has two promotions from the LEB Silver League to the LEB Gold League (read report). One of the most successful men in the LEB Leagues in which he was capable of up to four consecutive promotions with the jerseys of three different teams, first from the ranks of an Iberostar Canarias with which he was proclaimed champion of the League in 2012 and, later with a Lucemtum Alicante with which he won his first Playoffs in Andorra. Later he would get the double with a Ford Burgos with which he achieved one as champion and one in the Playoffs. From then on, Albert began a career of four seasons in the Endesa League before beginning the path back to earth with a Bàsquet Girona in which he already has two promotions, one from LEB Plata to LEB Oro and another from LEB Oro to Liga Endesa with which it has signed this year its record of promotions in the category.

2012: Iberostar Canarias – Promotion as League Champion
2013: Lucentum Alicante – Promotion in Playoffs
2014: Ford Burgos – Rise in Playoffs
2015: Ford Burgos – Promotion as League Champion
2022: Bàsquet Girona – Promotion in Final Four

Lluis Costa remains infallible with his fourth promotion:

In recent years he had earned a well-deserved fame as a key player when it came to qualifying for promotion to the Endesa League and that was noticeable in last summer’s market. Because Lluis Costa did not lack offers when it came to deciding on his future, an unknown that he cleared up by committing to Covirán Granada with a long-term contract with which he could opt for a joint promotion that has come into question of months. All this thanks to his leadership on the court to be able to turn his team into champions of an LEB Gold League, thus giving the Barcelona point guard his fourth category promotion. Previously, the Nasrid team’s all-rounder had achieved it with Ford Burgos and Real Betis Energía Plus as League champions and, in between, with an ICL Manresa with which they successfully completed one of the most demanding Playoffs in history. In this way, Lluis will foreseeably set course for the Endesa League next season, thus interrupting a path in which he has become a legend of the LEB Gold League.

– 2015: Ford Burgos – Promotion as League Champion
– 2018: ICL Manresa – Promotion in Playoffs
– 2019: Real Betis Energía Plus – Promotion as League Champion
– 2022: Covirán Granada – Promotion as League Champion

Christian Díaz signs his third assault with two titles under his arm:

With a clearly upward trajectory throughout his career, point guard Christian Díaz is beginning to be a determining factor for his teams when it comes to qualifying for promotion. And it is that, in just seven seasons, the Canarian point guard has already been promoted to the Endesa League three times, which means a reliability close to 50%. A path that began in the 2014/15 campaign and totally against the odds, when the current point guard of Covirán Granada was able to deprive Breogán de Lugo of promotion in some historic Playoffs for his Ourense Baloncesto. Three years later, he was able to bring the Lugo entity back to the top with what was his first promotion as league champion before ending up, in this last stage, in a Covirán Granada with which he has been able to achieve it again . And once again, with a league title that has made Christian one of the bi-champions of the competition throughout a career that is beginning to be synonymous with success.

– 2015: Ourense Basketball – Rise in Playoffs
– 2018: Río Breogán – Promotion as League Champion
– 2022: Covirán Granada – Promotion as League Champion

The club of the two promotions welcomes six new members:

The conquest during this 2022 of the two promotion places by Covirán Granada and Bàsquet Girona has meant the second promotion of their careers for a total of six players. Three classics of the competition by each team and thus go on to inscribe their names on a list with nearly 90 protagonists throughout history. Among the most outstanding, a Txemi Urtasun (Bàsquet Girona) synonymous with experience in the category or a Thomas Bropleh (Covirán Granada) whose talent begins to be synonymous with promotion for his teams.

– Thomas Bropleh (Coviran Granada)
– Edu Gatell (Covirán Granada)
– Joan Pardina (Covirán Granada)

– Txemi Urtasun (Basketball Girona)
– Josep Franch (Basketball Girona)
– Karamo Jawara (Basketball Girona)
