Andrea Boquete, Argentine forward with a Spanish passport, will compete next season with RACA Granada in LF Challenge after the agreement reached with CD Tear.

Boquete (Godoy Cruz, Mendoza, Argentina) one of the most outstanding players in recent years in Liga Femenina 2, and a fixed one in the calls of the Giants, as the Argentine team is known.

Last season, she achieved promotion to the Women’s League with Baxi Ferrol, along with Patricia Benet, also incorporated to the collegiate team. He came to Galicia after a great 19/20 season at Patatas Hijolusa, where he signed the best individual performance of the competition. A practically perfect game in which he signed 46 PIR points, thanks to his 30 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 recoveries and two fouls received in 38 minutes of play in which he barely missed four shots (a shot of two and three triples) and lost a ball.

Like the other two new additions to RACA, Heleen Nauwelaers and Patri Benet, Andrea Boquete also has experience in the top flight of Spanish basketball, having played ten games for Cadí la Seu in the 17/18 season.

Boquete began his career in the lower categories of Petroleros YPF from his native Mendoza, with whom he made his debut in the Argentine league. His experience in Spain began in 2007 when he signed for Eliocroca Murcia. After one more year playing in the First National, at the Toshiba Polígono Toledo, he reached Liga Femenina 2 at the hands of Socinsa Bembibre, in which he spent two seasons from 2009 to 2011.

In her native Argentina, she has won just about everything, and with accolades as the most valuable player. The last was the title of Champion of the Clausura and the Super Cup of the Argentine League in 2019 with Quimsa, achieving the MVP in both cases. In addition, she holds the record for the most scored in a National Women’s League game, with 41 goals.

Basketball globetrotter, in addition to playing in Argentina and Spain, and of all the countries he has visited with the albiceleste, Andrea competed in the Bolivian League with the Catholic University of La Paz, being the top scorer of the 2013/14 season, and in Brazil, with the Club Presidente Venceslau in the 15/16 season.

With Argentina

The first time that Andrea Boquete wore the albiceleste was in 2007, when he won the South American U17 runner-up in Quito. Since then, her record has grown: U19 World Cup Bronze, Absolute South American Runner-up in Chile 2010 and Ecuador 2014, Americup Runner-up in Buenos Aires 2017, Champion in the South American 2018 and silver medal in the 3×3 modality of the Games Pan American 2019.

For history it will remain that one of his support behind his back, in the 2019 Copa América, was chosen by FIBA ??as the best of the 2010-20 decade, defeating the legendary Diana Taurasi in the final decision.

Boquete was part of the Argentine team that this summer was disqualified by FIBA ??from the Americup’21 because of the Covid.

With Andrea Boquete’s, there are now three RACA Granada incorporations to compete in the LF Challenge, along with Patricia Benet and Heleen Nauwelaers. Along with them, the renewals of Laura Arrojo, Mamen Blanco and Rebeca Rodríguez are already confirmed.

Statement by Andrea Boquete:

“I am very happy with the signing. From the first moment I had no doubts. I have very good references from both the club and the people, as well as the project they want to create this year and I had no doubts in accepting the proposal. I am very happy and very happy to be part of this new team, new project and I am really looking forward to this new season beginning ”.

“This new Challenge League will be very tough, very difficult, all the teams are putting together very well, but I am sure that we, if we can form a beautiful human group, we will surely have double the benefits. When there is good human quality in a team, it adds a lot when it comes to a competition as important as this. I believe and I am sure that we will meet that objective, and, obviously, accompanied by training. We are going to work a lot and very hard to achieve the objectives of both the club and ours. I am very anxious for this beginning, for this new season, I am very excited ”.

“For my part, I’m going to try to do my best, add my experience and obviously do whatever the coaching staff asks of me. I am at their disposal, 100% and eager to grow both as a person and as a player and I am sure that Granada is the right place ”.

Statements by Maribel Piñar, RACA Granada coach:

“Andrea is an outside player who can also play inside positions. He’s smart both offensively and defensively. She has a lot of confidence in the shot, a good one-on-one from the outside and is a great rebounder on both hoops. Very fighter and great competitor ”.
