Neven Spahija will not continue at the helm of the Bitci Baskonia bench next season after ending the contractual relationship that linked him to the club from Vitoria, which has announced his departure through an official statement.

His departure opens the door for Joan Peñarroya, who long ago reached an agreement with the Baskonia team for the next two seasons. Precisely, the Catalan coach, until now at Valencia Basket, was eliminated by the Vitorians in the quarterfinals of the Endesa League. The incorporation of him could be announced shortly.

Spahija thus closes his second stage as coach in the capital of Alava, which he arrived last November and in which he has directed a total of 53 official matches with 27 victories, leaving the azulgrana squad in the semifinals of the Endesa League.

The Croatian coach also wanted to show his gratitude to the club for once again giving him “the opportunity to return to training in the EuroLeague and the Endesa League. It has been an honor to be able to lead this club again and I will always be very grateful to him. Now that we have parted ways I want to wish the greatest future success to the entire Baskonia family”. The club has also thanked him for his commitment, positive attitude, work and professionalism since the day of his arrival and has wished him luck in the future.
