This weekend the Ordinary General Assembly of the Spanish Basketball Federation was held, in which the dates and compositions of the competitions were approved for the 2021/22 season. Regarding the Cáceres World Heritage Site and the LEB Oro, the format will remain with many similarities to that of the current campaign. There will continue to be 19 teams that make up the league and the division into phases and groups will continue. Again, two groups will be established by geographical proximity that, later, will give way to the already known promotion and permanence groups.

Of course, the FEB is committed to recovering the two promotions to the Endesa League, the first being for the best classified of the Promotion Group while the second will be settled in a promotion playoff that also return to their original form (8 teams in qualifying to the best of five and with a final to four in which the winner will get a place in ACB). However, there will continue to be four teams condemned to relegation to LEB Plata.

These places will be filled by the last classified in the Permanence Group.

With regard to the new members of the category, the main attraction will be the presence of one of the deans of Spanish basketball, Movistar Estudiantes. The schoolboys will leave the top category for the first time in their history, after having avoided it twice for bureaucratic reasons. Acunsa Guipuzkoa Basket will also return with them, after having completed their promotion in the courts last season. The third team that, as is already known, will be added to the LEB Gold list next year will be another from Guipuzkoa, in this case the newcomer Juaristi ISB. Azpeitia’s team was proclaimed LEB Plata champion after beating Barça ‘B’ in the title tie.

So far, and taking into account the distribution of Groups A and B this season, there are two casualties to replace in each of them, to which will be added the one left by the winner of the LEB Gold qualifying rounds. Know the results of all pending matches, the Federation and clubs will begin to define the composition of the final groups for next year, which could lead the green and black to play for the first time at the WiZink Center in Madrid.
