Although it has cost, Embutidos Pajariel Bembibre already has the player who will reinforce the inner game after the loss due to physical problems of Bionca Dunham. This is Cherin (he prefers this name to Britany) Miller, a proven American center 34 years old and 192 centimeters tall who has returned to play after a year of inactivity in Cesme Basketbol Izmir, in the TKBL – second category of basketball Turk -, where he played four games. Although he will now work under the command of Pepe Vázquez, he returns eight years later to the Bercian team, with which he made his debut in the Endesa Women’s League in the club’s first campaign in the highest category.
With a fleeting experience in the WNBA in 2009 with the Detroit Shock, the New York-born player has a long history in European basketball and great experience in the Endesa Women’s League, in which she has participated in 96 games and in which she will be able to play again this Thursday against SPAR Gran Canaria. She made her debut in the highest category of Spanish women’s basketball in 2012-2013, the only one that was in the Bierzo Alto squad. In it, despite not accumulating dazzling numbers, it did have a decisive role in some of the five wins that the team led then by Chiqui Barros achieved.
Extensive experience in Spain and Europe
His first experience in Spain, however, took place in 2009-2010 and also with Barros himself in the ranks of the University of Ferrol, although in this case in the second category. After passing through Bembibre, he went to Gernika, where he spent two seasons and achieved promotion to the Endesa Women’s League in 2014. After that second experience in the highest category, in 2015 he met again with the Ferrol coach at the Equinoctial Technological University (UTE) from Ecuador, a team to which he returned in 2018 after finishing that season at Durán Maquinaria Ensino and starting it at the Romanian Satu Mare.
In that 2018 he began his last stage in Spain, in this case in Lugo, where he remained until 2020 and came to play the Copa de la Reina. At the beginning of last year, despite having renewed his contract, he left the Ensinista team due to family problems related to COVID-19 and recently signed for Cesme Basketbol Izmir. In the Turkish team he played four games, in which he averaged more than 13 points and more than 9 rebounds. He also had a brief experience during the 2015-2016 season with Mann-Filter Zaragoza, although he ended up signing for Portuguese Madeira before going to Hapoel Zichron in Israel.
Miller was trained at Florida State University, where she had a great career and ended up being selected in the WNBA Draft in 2009 after having her first overseas experience in the Czech Republic with Brno during the 2008-2009 season. After not starting the season with French Mondeville, he made his debut in Spanish basketball in Ferrol, where he already coincided with Marta Tudanca. Before signing for the entity of the town of Boeza to return to play with the Vitorian forward, he went through the Croatian Lupa Promotion Novi Zagreb in 2010-2011 and Basket Calais of the second gala category in 2011-2012.
Pepe Vázquez: “She is a player with characteristics that we did not have”
On his return to Bembibre, Miller assures that “stepping on this track again is great. My memories here are special ”, recognizes the New Yorker, who admits that she has changed a lot as a player in these eight years“ after overcoming many challenges and meeting and playing with some great players. Those memories changed me not only as a player, but as a person, and I am grateful for this new opportunity ”, she emphasizes.
Regarding her role, Miller hopes to be “a leader capable of highlighting the qualities and talent of my colleagues, but above all to grow. It is important to have the confidence of the rest, to be an example ”, emphasizes the American center, who adds that“ I have placed God as an important part of my life. That is why I have improved my mentality ”, explains the American, who assures that“ I have built habits to improve and grow as a player ”.
For his part, the coach of the Berciano team, Pepe Vázquez, is “happy for this signing, because she is a player with characteristics that we did not have, a pure 5 who plays with her back to the basket, large, with the ability to rebound and play the pick and roll. It is a player profile that we have not had in recent years “, insists the Galician coach, who recalls that Miller” is a player who knows the club and the people. She has had a long career in Spain, so her adaptation to the Endesa Women’s League will be quick “, argues the Galician coach, who adds that” she is a veteran player who will bring experience to a young team. Having that reference is important ”, he concludes.
