David Eudal has resigned as coach of Morabanc Andorra and will be replaced by Óscar Quintana, who will make his debut tomorrow (8:45 p.m.) in the play-off match for the round of 16 of the European Championship against Buducnost.
David Eudal took over the reins of the team on January 23 after the dismissal of Ibon Navarro. The Andorran, also the absolute coach of Andorra, was the assistant coach of the Vitoria coach. In his first match as head of the bench he won on the Dolomiti Energia Trento court, but in his ACB debut he also won at the WiZink Center against Real Madrid by 83-88.
His balance in domestic competition is three wins against Real Madrid, Joventut Badalona and Surne Bilbao Basket and eight losses -the last five in a row-. In the European Championship, five wins and four losses, but qualifying with court factor for the round of 16 play-offs.
His last defeat was consummated on Saturday against Coosur Real Betiswhich leaves the team in last position with eight wins and 21 losses and one from salvation.
The next match in the MoraBanc Endesa League will be on Sunday (12:30 p.m.) against Inherits San Pablo Burgos who is one victory away from the Andorrans and with a +11 in the particular ‘average’.
“Because of who he is and how he is (a club myth) this is very difficult news because the gratitude for his work is absolute,” said the club, which announced a press conference this afternoon with Francis Solanasports director, and the former coach, David Eudal.
Óscar Quintana, who is linked by a good friendship with Francesc Solana, will be the substitute for David Eudal. The Torrelavega coach, 55 years old, led Real Betis Energía Plus in 2017-18where he was dismissed in mid-April 2018.
The Cantabrian coach, ACB commentator on Movistar, signed until the end of the season to avoid relegation to LEB Oro del MoraBanc. The one from Torrelavega directed Fuenlabrada where he had Francesc Solana, CB Sevilla, CAI Zaragoza in LEB, Ricoh Manresa, Lucentum Alicante and UCAM Murcia before coming to Betis. His debut on the Andorran bench will be in the European Championship play-off match against Buducnost Voli Podgorica.
