The newest player for the reigning Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champions debuted in style on Thursday as Anadolu Efes Istanbul downed host AX Armani Exchange Milan 83-95 in a friendly game. Big man Filip Petrusev made his presence felt with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks as Efes rallied in the second half to win. Milan had shot well to lead 52-46 at halftime, but a 9-30 outburst in the third quarter turned it around for the visitors. Vasilije Micic, last year’s full-season and Final Four MVP, led the winners with 23 points, while Krunslav Simon added 19 and Rodrigue Beaubois 17. James Anderson pulled 11 rebounds for Efes. Milan got 14 points from Sergio Rodriguez and 11 each from Nicolo Melli and Jerian Grant. Efes played without Shane Larkin and Tibor Pleiss, while Malcolm Delaney and Kaleb Tarczewski were missing for Milan. The two teams will meet again on Saturday.

In other action on Thursday, Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade stayed perfect after two games by downing Mega Basket 82-77 in the Serbian capital. Austin Hollins paced the winners with 20 points, while Nikola Ivanovic added 17 points and Nikola Kalinic 12. Olympiacos Piraeus looked especially strong in downing neighborhood rival Ionikos 59-98 as seven players scored in double figures. A 0-12 start propelled the Reds to increasingly large leads throughout the night. Those six scores were Sasha Vezenkov (15), Georgios Printezis (14), Shaquielle McKissic (12), Tyler Dorsey (12), Giannoulis Larentzakis (10) and Moustapha Fall (10). As important as the victory was the fact that proceeds from the game were donated to help purchase a fire truck for the island of Evia, which has been stricken by wilfires of late.
