Pau Gasol was clearly voted as FIBA’s Men’s Player of the Year award for 2008. Gasol led his Spanish National Team to a silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He scored, defended and gave his teammates confidence while scaring team USA for the fight of the gold medal.

Rudy Fernandez, Gasols Spanish teammate came in second in votes.

The 2009 NBA All-Star Game Weekend is only a day away and three Spanish Basketball Players are making history. This is the first time that there is more than one Spanish player participating in the Rookie All Star Game (Gasol & Fernandez), first ever in the dunk contest and Europe in general (Fernandez), and the repeat visit to the NBA All-Star Game (Pau Gasol). This is a big weekend for the Spanish Basketball Federation and Basketball in Spain.
