Ricky Rubio is only 19 years old and has received more awards than any Spanish Men’s Player at his age. Today he was presented with the FIBA Young Player of the Year award for the 3rd consecutive year. Rubio assisted his country Spain in winning last years EuroBasket 2009 Gold Medal and in his first year with FC Barcelona he helped them win the 2010 EuroLeague Championships Final held in Paris, France.

“I’m proud to receive this award.” stated Rubio.

“It also belongs to my teammates because last year´s gold medal at the EuroBasket helped me to receive it.

“I hope there are a lot more awards to come in the future”.

The honors keep coming in for Ricky Rubio the young point guard from Spain. Rubio just after one day of winning the Euroleague Championship in Paris was named as the ACB Point Guard of the Year. Ricky Rubio was also named to the Ideal 5 Players of the ACB. This is his second year in this presence. In Ricky Rubio’s first year with FC Barcelona he is the second most value player of his team averaging 11.6pts after Juan Carlos Navarro. He also started 31 games out of 33 ACB games this year.

There is been a lot of news surrounding Ricky Rubio and the changes after the draft didn’t go the way he thought. Everyday in Spain, the news changes for the young star. Many teams have been in the mix such as Real Madrid, Barca, Minnesota and Joventut but finally it seems today that Ricky Rubio will sign with FC Barcelona. Of course, this news will probably change by tomorrow. The Eurobasket 2009 Championship in Poland is starting soon and these distractions aren’t good for the player or the Spanish National Team. Hopefully this drama will come to a conclusion. Ricky Rubio is a good player however with all of this good and bad press, what is in for his future as basketball player?

The Spanish basketball point guard sensation Ricky Rubio officially announced yesterday his intentions to enter the 2009 NBA Draft. After playing in the summer Olympics in Beijing, Rubio recognized that he could play among and against some of the best NBA players and in the world.

“In this moment I didn’t think. But I realized that I could play against the best and I don’t think I’m making a mistake.”

“I’m presenting myself in the draft because they have said that I could get drafted at a high position. I could be at the top and thats why I would like to enter. No basketball player could say no to a high position in the NBA draft.”

There are so many rumors surrounding Ricky Rubio and the 2009 NBA Draft. Will he enter or not? According to the Spanish Basketball Federation, Rubio has not made a decision and wants to focus on completing his season with DKV Joventut. The NBA Draft is scheduled for June 25th in New York at the Madison Square Gardens.

The deadline for his entry (non collegiate) is April 26th or June 15th. Otherwise he will have to wait on the next train for the 2010 NBA Draft. Rubio is being compared to Pete Maravich (looks and game).As for his decision, no one really knows. But here is a quote from Rubio.

It is a decision that I have not taken and would like consult my parents. Want to concentrate on DKV Joventut where I have a contract and when the time comes I will make a decision. This does not take away my dream. It depends on how the season ends because if I don’t do well it could take away the interest of my part in the draft. You never know.

If he does decide to enter, he will most likely be selected in the first round!

The NBA is back in action in Spain for the pre-season NBA LIVE Europe Tour 2008. In Barcelona, the New Orleans Hornets will be taking on the Washington Wizards in the Pavillion Palau Sant Jordi (home of Regal Barca Basketball) Friday October 17th at 9:00 pm local time Spain. Chris Paul was in an interview for a top Spanish Sports Magazine (El Mundo Deportivo) and commended Spains Mens National Team on a great Olympic Final in Beijing. Paul also noted the excellent play of Spains young point guard Ricky Rubio who is now out with an injury for his team DKV Joventut.

For the second year a row, DKV Joventut claims the champion of hte National Catalana ACB Trophy San Miguel 2008. In the final against Regal FC Barcelona 95-83. On the womens side, Sant Adrià won its third consecutive pre-season Catalana title against Aragon Girona.

Ricky Rubio was presented with the Young Player of the Year Award by Fibe Europe last week before the basketball tournament in Madrid. The 18-year old professional player of top ACB and Euroleague team, DKV Joventut where he helped lead the team to a ULEB Cup Title.

Rubio has been preparing for his first Olympics in Beijing with several Pre-Olympic Tournament games.
