FRancis Alonso has become Unicaja’s second official departure after Bilbao Basket announced his signing for the Basque team. The escort from Malaga was not included by Unicaja in the scoring that ended on June 30, in a clear sign, together with the typesetter movements in the market, that the Carpena squad was not available. Francis Alonso comes from signing an average of 5.9 points in 15 minutes per game, improving his figures in the Basketball Champions League to 7.4 points per game.

Rafa Pueyo, sports director of the Bilbao team, spoke about his new acquisition. “Francis Alonso is a player with a lot of projection. I think he is one of the national players with the greatest scoring capacity. He is a super three-point shooter. As everyone knows, he has been international in all categories, including the absolute one. He is a player who has a lot of ambition and who is going to come motivated and with the desire to show that he can play at a high level both in the ACB and in the Champions League”, he commented.

The Malaga academy player becomes, along with Carlos Suárez, the second official departure from Unicaja this summer for the 2022-23 campaign. Francis Alonso has been part of all the training categories of the Spanish National Team, with which he has played European and world championships in categories U16, U18, U19 and U20. Scariolo called him up to make the jump to the senior team in the 20/21 season, playing three games in the qualifying phase for the Eurobasket.
