Real Betis announced that Joan Plaza will continue to be the head coach of the team for the 2021-22 season. The Spanish coach contacted the team and informed them that he will stay for one more year.

Plaza arrived at Betis last December to help the team bounce back after a rough 2-9 start in the Spanish ACB League and avoid relegation. Betis proceeded to win nine games and managed to secure its stay in the first division.

Before Betis, Plaza coached such teams as Real Madrid, Zalgiris Kaunas, Unicaja Malaga and Zenit st. Petersburg. He won the EuroCup with Real in 2007 and Malaga in 2017.
