Josep Puerto (22 years old, 1.99), the last ‘son’ of #LaFamilia to land in a concentration of the Absolute Selection, is a genuine product of the Valencia Basket youth academy, in which he began to train in the children’s category. After passing through the cadet, junior and EBA League team categories, he debuted with the first team in a Eurocup match in the 2015-16 season. This season he has already played 354 minutes in 18 Endesa League games and another 234 in 12 Eurocup games.

And like practically all the players who have debuted with the SEAM in the last four years, he also reaches absolute international status after having passed through training teams. Puerto was international in the U16, U18 and U20 categories, in which he played a total of 30 games and participated in the conquest of two medals, both silver in the European U18 in 2017 and U20 in 2019. In 2016 he was also part of the U18 National Team that attended the European Championship but could not play any match due to an injury suffered hours before the start of the championship.

In his career in Training Teams, Puerto has coincided, as coaches, with two of the members of the SEAM technical team: Joaquín Prado on two occasions (European U18 of 2017 and European U20 of 2019) and Luis Guil on two other Luis Guil (European U20 of 2018 and European U18 of 2016, in which he could not play). His first coach, in the U16 in 2015, was David Soria.

In this his first concentration with the Absolute National Team, Puerto will coincide with who was his partner in the U18 and U20 teams in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019, Joel Parra.
“Getting here is the dream of any child who plays.”

After training this Tuesday morning, Puerto assured that “getting here is the dream of any child when they start playing. Everything that is said about camaraderie, good vibes is true, I am very happy and I want to continue enjoying myself”. And he added that “I am very proud to wear this shirt and to try to make the most of the experience possible, above all enjoying myself”.

How did your teammates Xabi and Jaime react when they found out you were in the call? “They rejoiced. Having people from your team going to the National Team with you is always good news. For me it is a joy”.

Of his colleagues in Córdoba: “Everyone is always joking, laughing, I wouldn’t highlight any one in particular.”

And from the hard work on the field: “Yesterday as soon as we arrived we already got a good training session, and today more”.
