Spain started the game with many turnovers (8) and scoring 15 points over Mali’s 7 points in the first quarter. Newcomer to the squad Sancho Lyttle did not have any time adjusting to the game plan. Lyttle was strong on offense and the defensive boards, as well as receiving fouls from Mali. After the first quarter Spain limited their turnovers and toughed the defense to finish the half with a 28 point lead (41-13) over Mali and only committing 4 turnovers in the 2nd quarter.
Mali did not have a chance against the tough defense of Spain and the weapons on offense. Spain never looked back and Mali could not stop making turnovers (33) which plagued them the entire game.
Spain’s biggest lead in the game was 45 points.
