Spectacular start of the Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank 2022 circuit, in the emblematic Plaza de España in Melilla, with more than 350 participants, some 2,000 visitors and the presence of the players of the Absolute Women’s National Team, concentrated in the city. More than 100 games have been played in an intense day in the afternoon, which began at 4:00 p.m. Melilla has been the scene of the circuit’s first stop of the year, which has a schedule that in the coming months will take it to 11 other cities throughout Spain.

As on every occasion, in addition to the competition matches, shooting and skill contests have been held, organized and entertained by the FEB Ambassador Fernando Romay. At all times, strict compliance with the health protocols has been guaranteed to guarantee the health of the participants and visitors.

In mid-afternoon, the components of the Absolute Women’s Team made their star appearance, delighting all the boys and girls, as well as the adults and visitors, spreading smiles and signing autographs.

This first stop on the Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank 2022 circuit has had the support of the Autonomous City of Melilla and the Melilla Basketball Federation, as well as the participation of a team of some 25 volunteers attached to the successful FEB-CaixaBank Volunteer Program.

The event included a wheelchair basketball exhibition by players from the historic Minusval Melilla.

Silvia Domínguez: “A pleasure to share this day”

The captain of the Absolute Women’s Team, Silvia Domínguez, has assured that “it is a pleasure to be here and share this day of basketball in the street. We were here four years ago and we hope that you will bring us luck again on our way, and that you come to see us this week at the games”.

Rachid Bussian: “Starting point for a few days of basketball”

For the Minister of Infrastructure, Urban Planning and Sports of Melilla, Rachid Bussian, “it is an unbeatable afternoon, on a great stage, and a magnificent starting point for a few days of basketball in Melilla with our young people. Antonio Caballero, director of the CaixaBank Area in Melilla, has remarked that “the Plaza 3×3 CaixaBank is a way of sharing basketball and the values ??that unite us, a satisfaction that the tenth edition of the circuit starts in Melilla and with the privilege of having with us to the Women’s National Team”.

Javier Almansa: “In Melilla we turned to basketball”

The president of the Melilla Basketball Federation, Javier Almansa, wanted to thank “the Spanish Federation and CaixaBank for bringing the Plaza 3×3 to Melilla. In this city we throw ourselves into basketball, with our youth, clubs, parents… and it is a pride to experience the first stop this year”.

For his part, the women’s coach, Miguel Méndez, stressed that “here we feel very comfortable, incredible, we have been able to do all our work very well, and now we want to invite you to come to our two games and enjoy this team, which is everyone’s team”.

More than 100 stops, 42 cities and more than 45,000 participants since 2012

The FEB launched the Plaza 3×3 program in 2012, from its first edition by CaixaBank. Since its inception, the circuit has reached 101 stops, 45,000 participants and 225,000 visitors. All this in a total of 42 cities throughout Spain: A Coruña, Albacete, Alcalá de Henares, Alcázar de San Juan, Almendralejo, Almería, Ávila, Badajoz, Barcelona, ??Bilbao, Burgos, Cáceres, Castellón, Cartagena, Córdoba, Gijón, Guadalajara, Granada, Huelva, Jaén, Jerez de la Frontera, León, Leganés, L’Hospitalet, Logroño, Madrid, Málaga, Melilla, Murcia, Palma de Mallorca, Pamplona, ??Plasencia, San Sebastián, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Santander, Santiago of Compostela, Segovia, Seville, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Terrassa, Valencia, Zaragoza and Zarautz.
