The real Madrid was exhibited during his visit to the Fernando Buesa Arena defeating TD Systems Baskonia 74-85 in a game that he never saw in danger. With five players above 10 pointsLaso’s men relied on a great start in each of the four periods to take advantage and keep the locals at a distance. Walter Tavares dominated the paint, and the game in general, signing 16 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks for a 37 valuation.. Together with him, Deck (18), Thompkins (14), Causeur (13) and Alocen (11) had an important role in key moments to abort the attempts of Baskonia to come back.
The beginning was marked by the Tavares omnipresence on both sides of the track: scoring, rebounding, blocking and assisting. The consequence was a first white advantage (4-10, min.4) that caused the first local time-out. Despite the triple change introduced by Ivanovic, Deck increased the lead with two consecutive triples, later adding more players to the Laso team’s scoring party. Another triple, this time from the corner of Alocen, placed a 12-25 on the scoreboard, an advantage that would be reduced to 20-27 at the end of the first quarter, after an error by Laprovittola giving three free throws to his compatriot Vildoza.
The gale in attack was complemented by a forceful performance in defense that kept the Baskonistas without scoring during the first four minutes of the second quarter. Thus, two baskets by Deck and a triple by Causeur led the difference up to 20-34. Tavares’ departure from the court weakened Real Madrid and gave wings to Baskonia, which gradually settled down thanks to the offensive rebound and the aggressiveness of Dragic. Five consecutive points from the Slovenian brought those of Dusko closer to just six points (30-36, min. 18), the result of a greater local rhythm. Laso found the perfect antidote on Thompkins’ wrist, who cooled Vitoria’s engine with seven consecutive points to rebuild a double-digit advantage. A basket on Vildoza’s horn allowed Baskonia to slightly cushion the damage at half-time (36-45).
A Madrid without losses
The chat in the locker room sat the whites better, than led by a very inspired Causeur, started with a 0-7 to put land in between (36-52, min. 22). Ivanovic found an unexpected help in Diop, author of seven points – including a triple – and a fundamental factor to avoid a definite escape from the visitor (41-57, min. 24). The trend varied from that moment on. The whites, who had not lost a single ball in the first 25 minutes, suffered the recovered baskonista defensive intensity and triples from Henry (2) and Polonara to see how their advantage was reduced to only six points (60-66, min.30).
That would be, however, the last local attempt. As in the three previous periods, it was Laso’s who came out the most intense on the market. A lonely basket of Polonara were the only Baskonia points in the first eight minutes of the quarter, taking advantage of the madridistas to definitively break the game. Closing the rebound, with patience and good circulation in attack looking for the advantage of Tavares in the zone, the sentence came with a resounding partial 2-19 (62-85, min. 38) that only last triples by Henry, Peters and Kurucs allowed makeup
