Three months after their participation in the Olympic Games, the National Teams began in the last weeks of November their respective paths in their new challenges: the qualification for the EuroBasket Women 2023 and the Men’s World Cup 2023.

The fire was opened by the Women’s National Team, which did so with a notable novelty: a new coach. Miguel Mendez, one of the most prestigious Spanish coaches in women’s basketball today, directed his first two games with Spain, verbalizing his great objective: to keep Spain at the top of international women’s basketball after the double disappointment this past summer, first in the EuroBasket (7th place) and later in the Olympic Games (6th). An exciting challenge again at a stage in which the team will not be at this year’s World Cup in Australia. “We want to always be in the fight for the medals, not lose competitiveness, keep fighting for the maximum and be as high as possible, be in the big events and meet the objectives“assured Méndez.

His debut was settled with victories, which placed Spain as the first leader of his group on the way to EuroBasket: a difficult and worked 62-66 in his visit to Hungary and a clear 107-52 over Romania in Almería.

The start of the Men’s National Team registered another double success: their victories over North Macedonia in Skopje (65-94) and against Georgia in Jaén (89-61), with the world champion Quino Colom acting as captain. And an outstanding novelty: the debut as Team Leader of the historic former international Carlos Jimenez, whose contribution, in his own words, is going to be in line with what my participation has always been, not only in the Senior Selection but also in training: to help as much as possible and contribute my experience for the good of the team ” . His first steps could not have been better.

The next appointments in their respective paths will face the Women with Iceland and Hungary in November 2022, both home games, and the Men with Ukraine, a match on each court, to be played next February.
