The Belgian international becomes the third signing for next season after Vega Gimeno and Merritt Hempe, also joining Anna Cruz, Aminata Sangaré and Zoe Hernández as the sixth player on Carlos Cantero’s squad for the 2021-2022 season in the Women’s League Endesa.
Belonging to the Belgian gold generation, Antonia Delaere (Antwerp, 1994) came to the elite thanks to the BBC Kangoeroes-Boom of Mechelen. There he played his first five seasons as a professional, making a place for himself in the starting five at just 19 years old, thanks to his 11.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists on average, while competing in the EuroCup with the Lotto Young Cats. His good work led him to France, on his first experience outside of Belgium, at the hands of Union Saint-Amand Porte in 2014, where he had a brief experience until arriving at Namur first and Castors Braine later. In her native country she competed for three other seasons showing that she was ready for both the EuroCup and the EuroLeague, a competition in which she averaged 8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per match.
Later, France knocked on his door again and Delaere scored an outstanding 13.6 points per game with Nantes Rezé Basket, while continuing to add calls with the national team. In the national team, the Belgian won bronze in the EuroBasket 2017 in the Czech Republic and was a participant in the first qualification for the Olympic Games in the country’s history. A very special tournament that he will play before his arrival in Zaragoza, after adding a new participation in a EuroBasket, a tournament that he is already preparing with the Belgian team. Due to the pandemic, everything stopped, but after the resumption he signed with IDK Euskotren, in what was his debut in the Endesa Women’s League, averaging 9.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists. A good contact in the Endesa Women’s League, which will continue with Casademont Zaragoza.
THIS IS HOW CARLOS CANTERO SEES IT
«Antonia is a player that I have been following for several seasons, practically since we met in EuroLeague. With her incorporation we added a solid, high-level outside player with experience at European level, indisputable in the Belgian team and who has experience in the Endesa Women’s League this past year. Without being a specialist, she is capable of doing everything very well: she defends, rebounds, she is capable of generating shots for her teammates, creating them herself, she is vertical, with a good mid-distance shot. I am very happy with her arrival because she is one of those players that I am looking forward to training ». All the best
