ANDItalian Alessandro Gentile has reported this Sunday that he is leaving the Movistar Estudiantes discipline due to “side effects of the virus” (covid-19) that “prevent him from helping” him on the field.

“Unfortunately my season ends today. After passing the covid-19 a couple of months ago I am still suffering some side effects of the virus that prevent me from helping my team on the field,” he says on his Instagram account.

“I will need some rest time to heal perfectly and return to 100% both physically and mentally as soon as possible,” he adds.

“I want to thank the Movistar Estudiantes family for their support and for giving me the opportunity to play again in what I consider to be one of the best leagues in Europe,” he continues.

“Thanks to coach Javier Zamora for wanting me by his side, although things don’t always go as expected. Thanks to coach Jota (Cuspinera) for understanding my personal situation, and thanks to all the medical staff and colleagues who supported me in this pair of such tough months, “he says.

“I also want to give friendly advice to those who still doubt the existence of covid. Each person is different and can be affected in different ways. Be careful and follow all the rules we have. I just want to wish everyone good health and encourage everyone to stay safe in this difficult time that we are living, “he concludes.

Alessandro Gentile, a 28-year-old Italian forward and 2.01 meters, arrived at Movistar Estudiantes midway through the 2017-2018 season after playing the NBA Summer League with the Houston Rockets and averaging 16.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in about 30 minutes per game at the Virtus Bologna.

He was introduced as a student player on October 31, 2018.
