Build synergies and create and increase ties with the Biscayan basketball. That is the objective of Gernika KESB in this series of actions that it has taken up after the year of the pandemic.
A club that is close geographically will now also be close to sporting approaches, thus resuming the dialogue and common work that already existed between the two entities almost a decade ago.
Ibaizabal ST is a benchmark club in Women’s League 2 and in Bizkaia. Several players trained in the Gernikarra quarry have joined the Galdakao team and have continued their training in the Galdakaoztarra first team. Now it is also intended that the link between both entities serve to give projection to the training players of Ibaizabal within a framework agreement.
Gerardo Candina, President of Gernika KESB, and Gorka Paternina, President of Ibaizabal ST, have been in charge of initiating an agreement that the sports directors of both entities, Mario López and Iñaki Merino have been developing in recent weeks. “I said it in the presentation and I reiterate it today, the priority objective of Gernika KESB is the training of players and this agreement represents another step in that regard,” said Gerardo Candina. Gorka Paternina, for his part, valued this union “very positively”: “It is good for Ibaizabal ST and for Biscayan women’s basketball. The pandemic has hit us hard and with this agreement we are going to ensure that no girl is left without playing ”.
Immediately, this agreement will translate into the linking of the Junior teams of both clubs, thus forming two teams that share the same line. One will be called GDKO Ibaizabal Lointek Gernika and the other Lointek Gernika Ibaizabal. Both will play their Basque League matches in Maloste.
