The match against Serbia corresponding to the second day of the group stage of the Olympic Games is not one more for Lucas Mondelo. This Thursday, National Coach has directed his 150th match at the head of the Women’s National Team. A figure that to date had only been able to reach Chema Buceta, leading the national team in a total of 180 games in two stages between 1979 and 1992.
Mondelo is the coach with the highest number of victories in the history of Spanish women’s basketball, a total of 125 wins in his first 149 games. An outstanding record that has allowed him to achieve a total of seven medals in the eight international championships who has been in front of the Absolute. His resume has three European golds (2013, 2019 and 2019), two silver (2014 World Cup and Rio 2016 Olympic) and two bronzes (EuroBasket 2015 and 2018 World Cup). The most successful Coach in women’s basketball also has three medals in training categories: gold in the 2011 U20 European Championship and two silver, in the 2009 U19 World Cup in Thailand and in the 2010 U20 European Championship.
Mondelo made his debut as Coach on June 6, 2012 in Kaunas against Sweden in a friendly ended with victory (80-71). Now, in Japan, it has become the first Coach to play two Games with the Women.
