Nine years after the historic final between Ros Casares and Rivas Ecópolis, the Endesa Women’s League is once again represented in the Euroleague Women’s Final Four. The Perfumeries Avenida will be the one who breaks this drought from this Friday 16 in Istanbul, curiously the city that hosted the, to date, the only match for the title of the maximum continental competition between two Spanish clubs.
The Salamanca team, which just a few days ago celebrated the tenth anniversary of the conquest of its first Euroleague, will look for the second in what is its third Final Four of the competition. The rival in the semifinals is the Sopron Basket Hungarian, a team that played the last two finals to four (2018 and 2019) after the champion of the previous campaign was vacated as a result of the pandemic. The team led by David Gaspar arrives in Turkey already qualified for the final of the Hungarian league and after having passed over the French LDLC Asvel in the quarter-finals of the Euroleague held a month ago. A very dangerous enemy whose main threat is the triangle made up of Gabby Williams, Jelena Brooks and Tina Krajisnik.
But yes, the Perfumerías Avenida also has arguments to get the ticket to the grand final on Sunday. Those of Roberto Íñiguez, named this week Best Coach of the Euroleague, arrive at the appointment with Andrea Vilaró already recovered from his injury and with a very complete squad full of arguments. The scoring power of the Americans Karlie Lou Samuelson and Tiffany Hayes and experience in command of operations Silvia Dominguez (the only survivor of the title achieved in 2011 by the charras) will have a lot to say in Istanbul.
Teledeporte will offer the Final Four in Istanbul in its entirety. Perfumerías Avenida-Sopron Basket will be broadcast live from 8:00 p.m. on Friday, April 16. Four hours earlier, at 4:00 p.m., the Fenerbahçe of Laura Nicholls and Víctor Lapeña will fight for a place in the final with the UMMC Ekaterinburg of Alba Torrens and Miguel Méndez. The match for third place will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday 18 and the grand final at 6:00 p.m.
Avenida, undefeated in Europe
After not participating in the top European competition last season, Perfumerías Avenida has returned to the Euroleague through the big door. Íñiguez’s players did not know defeat in Europe this season and reached the Final Four with an immaculate 8-0 after beating Spar Girona in both quarter-final matches. Precisely, the Catalan team inflicted the first of the two setbacks on Salamanca this season in the semifinals of the LF Endesa Queen’s Cup in Valencia. Valencia Basket, the new Eurocup champion, beat Avenida days later in the regular season of an LF Endesa in which Perfumerías will face Lointek Gernika in the semifinals. The Basques fell in the final of the Super Cup in September against Perfumerías.

Spanish basketball, in the Final Four
Dorna Godella was the first Spanish team to register its name in the winners of the Women’s Euroleague with the titles of 1992 and 1993. Perfumerías Avenida (2011) and Ros Casares (2012) are the other Spanish teams that have reigned in the Old Continent . The presence in the Final Four is broader, with the runners-up of Dorna Godella (1994 and 1995), Pool Getafe in 1998, Ros Casares Valencia (2007 and 2010), Avenida (2009) and Rivas Ecópolis (2012). El Ros was also present in the 2011 edition, where they lost in the semifinals.
