After the forced suspension last year due to sanitary restrictions, this Tuesday July 13 the second edition of the Spanish Basketball Gala, the project of the FEB and the newspaper Marca that rewards the protagonists of our most outstanding basketball of the season. In total there will be eight players who will receive their award, in addition to a coach, the historical Lolo sainz, who has been awarded the Legend award. The Gala will be held in the Gardens of the Duque de Pastrana Complex in the Spanish capital, which already hosted the first edition, in 2019, on the same day that it marks the 20th anniversary of the proclamation of the World Champion Junior Team.

The winners of this edition 2021 They are:

Xabi López-Arostegui (Best National Player). For being the most valued national player in the Endesa League, included in the best quintet of the season.

Cristina Ouviña (Best National Player). Due to her status as National MVP of LF Endesa on her return to Spain, as well as Eurocup champion and League and Cup finalist with Valencia Basket.

Sergio Rodríguez (Best National Player in international competition). For his brilliant season in Italy in the ranks of AX Armani Milan, with whom he has been proclaimed Cup champion and has played in the ‘final four’ of the Euroleague.

Alba Torrens (Best National Player in international competition). For her sixth Euroleague title, won with UMMC Ekaterimburg, equaling Diana Taurasi’s all-time record.

Lolo Sainz (Legend award). For his life dedicated to Spanish basketball, as a player and coach, translated into a total of 38 titles (16 as a player, 22 as a coach) and 2 medals with the National Team.

Laia Palau and Pau Gasol (Special award). The captain of the Women’s National Team, for having become the second player in history to participate in 10 editions of the Eurobasket, in which she has surpassed the legendary Uliana Semenova in matches played. And Pau, for his successful return to Spanish basketball 20 years after his departure to the NBA and the National Team four years after his last presence in the team.
