After a few days off after the EuroBasket in Valencia, the Women’s National Team started its second and last challenge of this demanding summer this Tuesday morning. Spain, current Olympic silver, is already preparing the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on the floor of Martín Carpena in Malaga.

The team led by Lucas Mondelo arrived in Malaga this Monday to start the concentration. A set-up that maintains the same formula as in the past 12 + 2 player EuroBasket. This group, which Astou Ndour will join in the next few days, is made up of the players who were already in Valencia last June, including those already recovered Alba Torrens and Tamara Abalde.

Spain will play its first preparation match against France at the Martín Carpena on Thursday, July 8, starting at 10:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. in the Canary Islands). It will also be the first time that La Femenina will play in Malaga. Two days later, on Saturday 10, the National Team will play again against France (5:30 pm). Although this time the meeting will take place at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris. Both games will be broadcast live on Teledeporte.

This double confrontation against France is part of the other two friendly matches that the Men’s National Team will also play against France in Malaga on Thursday the 8th and in Paris on Friday the 10th.

Lucas Mondelo: “We will go to Tokyo with great enthusiasm”

I have seen the team well. We started with the hope of facing a new challenge, a new opportunity. We have the ability to give a surprise. We have already incorporated Alba and Astou will come next week. We will go to Tokyo with the team made and with great enthusiasm. I have seen people with a lot of energy. I have a lot of hope because the work is there”.

Alba Torrens: “I am very happy to be here”

It was a difficult situation for everyone, but that is now in the past. We are back and I am very happy to be here. Rest has been very important to disconnect in every way. In the EuroBasket we did not get the results we wanted and that hurts us, but we have taken perspective and we have seen that we were competing at the highest level with, for example, the European champion (Serbia) ”.
