TThree months later, UCAM Murcia savored victory again, the first in 2021 that came against a direct rival, Urbas Fuenlabrada (70-82), which they lead by two wins and win in the private match thanks to a third quarter key (14-25) in which he uncovered a stuck crash.

A day later than expected due to the symptoms that can be shared with the coronavirus of a member of the Grana expedition and with the peace of mind of having a negative PCR of the entire squad, Sito Alonso’s team finally achieved their ninth league victory, breaking a streak of eight consecutive losses with a key role of the triples of American DJ Strawberry (4 of 6, 15 points).

The result punishes an irregular Fuenlabrada, who sees the relegation zone approaching – it only has one victory more than the three teams that mark it: Coosur Betis, Acunsa GBC and Retabet Bilbao – in another match in which it lowered its arms in defense after checking his lack of ideas and attacking success (he scored 38% of his field goals and gave half as many assists as the rival, 11 to 21), even with 26 points from the American Melo Trimble.

The good local start, serious in defense and fluid in attack, lasted what it took UCAM to find the Brazilian Augusto Lima, who chained six points and with Webb put the first Murcian income (6-11, min. 4). Fuenlabrada adjusted its defense, but it only worked in attack when Trimble entered and the first quarter closed with visiting hegemony (13-17).

The top scorer in the Endesa League is for something: with 6 more points he turned the duel around (19-17, min. 12) to start a runner to which UCAM responded by moving the ball well to find the Romanian Emanuel Cate inside . The festival dried up early (25-23, min. 15) for a return to tension, defenses and inaccuracies, which left a brief 30-30 at halftime.

Sito Alonso’s men returned to the floor in a hurry: circulating the ball well, they generated two triples released for DJ Strawberry (32-38, min. 23) and dried up a ‘Fuenla’ without Trimble. The brief local recovery was answered by UCAM by tightening the defense and running to go from 11 to the final set (44-55).

Urbas appealed to the epic from the hand of the Brazilian Leo Meindl and the Nigerian Obi Emegano, but the triples of the Dominican Sadiel Rojas and the Montenegrin Nemanja Radovic fell like a jug of cold water in the local aspirations (50-61, min 33) and there were moments of the Murcian festival, like a mate with one hand from Cate.

Meindl and Trimble insisted on giving life to their team until the end, but a triple by Tomás Bellas a minute from the end (66-74) gave the final knock to the first victory of the year for UCAM Murcia, which moves away from the descent at the same time that he distances himself from Fuenlabrada in two wins plus the private duel.
