Usal La Antigua adds talent abroad with the signing of Canarian forward Acoydan McCarthy
Usal La Antigua has incorporated Canarian forward Acoydan McCarthy (05/20/1999) to its EBA League team, considered one of the best national players of the 99 generation.
His new coach, Óscar Núñez, assures McCarthy that he is “a young player with a lot of ability and talent, very vertical to the basket and that he can help us in all outside positions (1,2,3)”. Núñez also wanted to underline his good work in defense, since, as the Charro coach assures, “he has a good physical level that allows him to defend with great intensity”.
Acoydan himself has assured, in statements provided by CB Tormes that his personal goal is none other than “to return to my best version and to be able to help achieve the goal of the season, go up to Silver.”
The keys to the success of the season for the canary go through demanding himself in defense. As he points out: “I think that in every basketball game the defense goes on the attack, so I think that will be the key this year: Raise the defensive level one more point.”
Regarding his own characteristics, McCarthy defines himself “as a versatile player and a very hard worker in defense. Then in attack I have resources both to score and to create situations for my teammates. Besides, I consider myself a good leader ”, he points out.
Regarding the decision to sign for the Salamanca team, the new forward for the charros acknowledges: “What made me sign for CB Tormes was the project they have always had. I’ve been following them for a few years because very good players have passed and I think that’s for something. I am very excited to work with the group and create a structure both on and off the field that will make us achieve what last year could not ”, he says.
The new charro player began his career at CB Gran Canaria, until Real Madrid set their eyes on him in 2013. In the white quarry he trained as a cadet and junior, making his debut in the EBA League. Four years later, he joined the university team of the Austin Peay Governors (of the NCAA1) with which he played 23 games.
In 2018 he returned home to play in the EBA League at Aloe Plus Lanzarote Conejeros where he averaged 30 minutes per game, with 11.2 points, 53.4% ??in shots of 2, 4 rebounds and 10.3 efficiency. Last year he signed for CB Tobarra averaging 25 minutes per game, 9.3 points (50.9% in shots of 2), 3.2 rebounds and a PIR of 9.5 per game.
McCarthy is the third player confirmed by Usal La Antigua, after the renewals of Nelson Yengue and Jorge Morán. The EBA team’s squad will again be led by Óscar Núñez, who will be accompanied on the coaching staff by Javier Alonso, Jorge Paniagua and Guzmán Pacho.
